chiropractic

One of the largest primary care professions in Ontario, chiropractic is an evidence-informed, non-invasive, hands-on health care discipline that focuses on the musculoskeletal system.

Chiropractors at Durham Spine Care practice primarily using their hands, providing diagnosis, treatment and preventive care for disorders related to the spine, pelvis, nervous system and joints.

We use a combination of treatments, depending on the specific needs of the individual patient. After taking a history, performing an examination and establishing a diagnosis, a chiropractor can develop and carry out a comprehensive treatment/management plan, recommend therapeutic exercise and other non-invasive therapies, and provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counselling.

For many conditions, such as low back pain, chiropractic care is the primary method of treatment. When a multi-disciplinary approach is advisable, a chiropractor will coordinate care with other health care professionals. Where other conditions exist, chiropractic care may complement or support medical or other treatment by relieving the musculoskeletal aspects associated with the condition.

There are many reasons to seek chiropractic care:

    › Back pain

    › Neck pain

    › Headache

    › Whiplash

    › Strains and sprains

    › Repetitive strain injury (RSI)

    › Work and sports injuries

    › Arthritis

› Limited range of motion in the back, shoulder, neck or limbs

Chiropractic is a regulated health profession, recognized by statute in all Canadian provinces and American states. Almost 2.7 million patients in Ontario rely on chiropractic care every year to help them live healthy, active lives.

acupuncture

Acupuncture, also known as needle puncture, is a traditional Chinese therapeutic treatment that involves the insertion of tiny needles into the body at specific acupoints. It originates from China and has been practiced in the Orient for almost 4,000 years. In the late 20 century, acupuncture began to spread rapidly in Europe and North America, and started to grow a high acceptance and popularity amongst the general public in the western world.

« Read More How does Acupuncture work? During the treatment, acupuncture stimulates certain acupoints of your body in order to treat a variety of health dysfunctions as well as adjusting your ability to heal. Acupuncture treatment is usually a continuous program that involves a large amount of repetition and dedication. The cells at specific acupoints get triggered to initiate your nervous system, and to further create a specific healing effect on your body. If the cells get sensitised frequently and effectively, the body will develop a mechanism to heal for itself. Acupoint stimulation can be carried out with heat, oil, pressure or fine needles.

spinal decompression

Until you experience a back injury, you have no real understanding of how debilitating it is. Virtually every movement uses one of the back or adjoining muscles. Back pain sufferers experience numbness, weakness, and reduced functioning of the limbs. Back pain interferes with work, sleep, and relaxation as well. If your injury progresses to the point where the disc material moves into spaces occupied by nerves, you are facing back surgery…well until now that is. With the inception of the ABS spinal decompression machines, patients now have a non- surgical option to relieve the nonstop pain they have been experiencing.

Some may say that it is too good to be true, but research indicates that 92% patients report overall improvement; of these, 5% improved 25-50%; 17% improved 50-75%; 70% improved 75-100%. (Gose, Naguszewski & Naguszewski , The Journal of Neurological Research, Volume 20)  As more people are experiencing relief and full recovery using the technology available, this dream becomes a reality. If you have tried with chiropractic manipulations, physical therapy, drugs, and do not want to assume the risks associated with back surgery, then spinal decompression is the next logical choice.

k-laser

K-Laser Class IV therapeutic lasers deliver specific red and near-infrared wavelengths of laser light to induce a photochemical reaction and therapeutic effect. Physiological effects include increased circulation, reduced inflammation, pain reduction and enhanced tissue healing. Laser therapy has been used in Europe since the 1970s and was cleared by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2005.

shockwave therapy

Shockwave therapy accelerates the healing process in the body by stimulating the metabolism and enhancing blood circulation to regenerate damaged tissue. Strong energy pulses are applied to the affected area. These pulses occur for short periods of time, creating micro-cavitation bubbles that expand and burst. The force created by these bubbles penetrates tissue and stimulates cells in the body that are responsible for bone and connective tissue healing. In many instances, shockwave therapy is most effective in cases where the human body has not been able to heal itself on its own..

Fracture Treatment

The Melmak bone healing Device is a convenient, 20 minute per day treatment which improves the speed of healing of fresh fractures and non-unions.

The Melmak Device delivers a low intensity pulsed ultrasound to the fracture site. The low intensity pulsed ultrasound signal (LIPUS) delivers an acoustic pressure wave to the fracture site. This represents a mechanical force, which aims to improve circulation and help with forming new bone.

Studies using commercially available LIPUS devices have shown that on average, fresh fractures will heal 38% faster than fractures that have not been treated with ultrasound. This is dependent on the type and location of the fracture.

Treatments Goals:
